James Brown

James Brown was an American painter born in Los Angeles, California in 1951.

Salt Note Black I

The length of an adult, this vertical form stands boldly on an airy atmosphere of dots.

Rising to fame in the 1980s East Village art scene, Brown was a painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist. He has been exhibited in institutions like Centre de Pompidou, MoMA, Art Institute of Chicago.

If every vertical form suggests a human presence, Brown experiments with the personality and assertion of the abstract form.

Its grand size and prominence set this work apart from others. Brown has strong six figure auction records.

Salt Note Black II

Brown created a base of lithographic forms by stamping ink with a fingerprint-like trace, varying the rhythm of the composition.

Using an antique hand-made paper intended for schools, Brown suggests that both the making and viewing of art is a process of learning.

Brown's strong six figure auction records only amplifies this stunning Hero work.

Diptych VII

Each hand-painted print begins with a printed matrix from which Brown responds – dramatically painting on the plate creating a unique composition.

These two works were created with the intent to be the authority of painting — singular, unique, indelible.

This one-of-a-kind pair by a six figure auction artist is a coveted collectible.

Mel Kendrick

Mel Kendrick, born in Boston in 1949, is acclaimed for his thought-provoking sculptures and installations.

7 Locks

American sculptor, adventurous in his rejection of narrative in favor of creating works that are self-referential. He has been exhibited in the MOMA, the Whitney, National Gallery.

Kendrick handpicked the raw sheets of plywood for this woodcut. With a circular saw, he cut out shapes and inked the sufrace for japanese paper. Each distinctive wood marking and movement is visible.

Simultaneously analytical and intuitive, Kendrick creates objects that provide clues to the process by which they were made. Visible traces of his trial-and-error method tease out the logic of his artmaking.

Experimental artist with rare global recognition in his lifetime, this work is a conversation piece.

Markus Lupertz

Markus Lüpertz, born in 1941 in Czechoslovakia, is a renowned artist known for his bold and unconventional work across painting, sculpture, and poetry.

Abend #2

Lupertz's expressive paintings chronicle historical wars, biblical themes, and mythology. This German artist has work displayed in the National Gallery, MoMA, Tate Modern.

Distinguished by figurative style, emotive color, and textured surfaces, Markus' three works have the same thematic but use a variety of techniques.

The raven is inspired by Manet's Poe etchings, carved with drypoint and softened with velvety aquatint.

Critically acclaimed, high auction artist with mueseum-exhibited pieces.

Sign of the Tiger

These color etchings are expressive gestures, that inadvertantly evoke emotion from their viewers.

Hugh's gestural drawings emulate the ebb and flow of of rhythms in the body.

A stunning Hero work with significant bang for its buck.

Salt Note Black and White

Brown creates a field of disks in black ink bringing to attention regualrity and order.

This work is anchored in simplicity of Brown's marking but also the complexity of its small variations.
